Hundertwasser Art Centre

Experience art and nature in perfect harmony in a unique architectural project dedicated to artist, visionary and ecological activist, Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

The unique landmark is located on the corner of Quayside and Riverside Drive, opposite Distinction Whangarei Hotel, right in the heart of Whangarei’s beautiful waterfront and on the popular Hatea Loop.

The exhibition includes Hundertwasser’s artistic legacy from 1973-2000, highlighting his time in New Zealand with original paintings, graphic works, tapestries, applied art, original posters and architectural models.

Visitors will also discover Wairau Māori Art Gallery, which is home to the finest examples of contemporary Māori art and is designed to promote and enhance Te Ao Māori. It is the first unique and dedicated public Māori Art Gallery in Aotearoa New Zealand. A forested rooftop, and a museum store with unique products is also located on-site.
